Salivary Alkaline Phosphatase level as Diagnostic marker for periodontal disease
نویسندگان
چکیده
The measurement of specific salivary enzyme activity may be valuable in the diagnosis of human periodontal disease. Alkaline phosphatase has often been measured as possible indicators of gingival inflammation and bone metabolism. It has been found that untreated adult periodontitis patients exhibited higher level of alkaline phosphatase in whole saliva than did healthy control. Alkaline phosphatase levels change in relation to gingival inflammation and bone loss. 30subjects (each having at least 20 teeth) in the age18-55 years (10 subjects with healthy periodontium, 10 with generalized gingivitis and 10 with generalized periodontitis) were randomly selected. Unstimulated whole saliva collected from each subject was transferred to auto analyzer to measure the salivary alkaline phosphatase levels. The quantitative analysis of salivary alkaline phosphatase levels of samples obtained from subjects with healthy periodontium, generalized gingivitis, generalized periodontitis showed, 18.50±5.07 IU, 39.49± 9.97IUand 85.18±16.85IU (mean± standard deviation), respectively. The present results showed the potential value of salivary alkaline phosphatase level as indicator for periodontal disease status

Alkaline Phosphatase – a Diagnostic Marker of Periodontitis in Postmenopausal Women – a Biochemical Study
Background and objective: Periodontal disease is one of the common inflammatory diseases with complex etiology and is multifactorial in origin.Several enzymes are evaluated for the early diagnosis of periodontal disease. The enzyme ALP plays a role in bone metabolism. In the periodontium, ALP is very important enzyme as it is part of normal turnover of periodontal ligament, root cementum, and b...

Background and purpose: Smoking increases the incidence and severity of periodontal disease. Elevation in the level of salivary soluble CD44 is considered as a diagnostic marker in some smoking-induced disorders such as periodontal disease. This study evaluated the salivary soluble CD44 level in smokers and non-smokers with and without moderate chronic periodontitis, before and one month after ...

OBJECTIVES To assess the effect of topical application of melatonin to the gingiva on salivary fluid concentrations of acid phosphatase, alkaline phosphatase, osteopontin, and osteocalcin. STUDY DESIGN Cross-sectional study of 30 patients with diabetes and periodontal disease and 30 healthy subjects. Diabetic patients were treated with topical application of melatonin (1% orabase cream formul...
متن کاملComparisons between two biochemical markers in evaluating periodontal disease severity: a cross-sectional study
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to compare two biochemical markers, which have been previously used to determine the degrees of alveolar bone destruction, in evaluating periodontal disease severity. METHODS The WF6 epitope of chondroitin sulfate (CS) and the alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels were determined in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) samples collected from patients with vario...
متن کاملEstimation of Specific Salivary Enzymatic Biomarkers in Individuals with Gingivitis and Chronic Periodontitis: A Clinical and Biochemical Study
BACKGROUND Host response to periodontal disease includes the release of different enzymes from stromal, epithelial or inflammatory cells. The enzymes which are produced from these cells are associated with cell injury and cell death like: Aspartate aminotransferase (AST), Alanine aminotransferase (ALT), Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and Blood urea nitrogen (BUN). Normal enzymatic activity of these...
